This introductory section contains a bit of information on the substance and the development history of the Brown Shoes Project.

It also includes a record of those that have supported the project and a few of their comments. We hope that the project will be kept viable for the historians, participants, the general public and common people who will read it for information and enjoyment.

Currently, resources limit this project to those Naval Aviators — mostly the Flying Midshipmen — and those who trained, flew with, and supported them during those 30 years. It is funded by the support of those interested in the collection and categorization of these stories and the history of this era.

The Brown Shoes Project operates under the aegis of the §501(c)(3) tax-exempt Alumni Association Fund of the University of Virginia. [Lou Ives is a UVA alum — MBA 1967 — the great class.]

This history comprises several general categories by subject matter. We realize that the articles could easily fall into a different categories — it shows the connections and interrelationships among all of the subjects. All send in your comments. We have already received several ideas, suggestions and archival materials that will support and enhance the project. Thanks to many, most recently information on The Revolt of the Admirals from David Anderson and content and retrieval suggestions from Todd Miller.
