China Experience:

Twelve consecutive years in China, Hong Kong, and other Asian Areas, with past six years residency in Beijing,
Extensive Chinese governmental and commercial connections,
Fluent in Chinese Mandarin language,
Articles on China published in· Foreign Affairs Quarterly and Naval Institute Proceedings.

1981-1987:

Vice President, FMC Far East, Ltd.
Managing Director, China, and resident Beijing Representative, FMC Corporation.

1978-1981:

Vice President, National Council for U.S.-China trade. Coordinated commercial, economic, and political information and communication between U.S. and Chinese entities. Conducted commercial and political Chinese delegations on tours of U.S. industry.

1975-1978:

Senior representative of the U.S. Defense Department in Hong Kong.

Conducted liaison with Hong Kong civil, military, and commercial authorities; and the diplomatic community in coordinating. U.S. politico-military matters in the Hong Kong area. Collected and reported politico-military-economic information on east Asia.

1972-1974:

Senior military officer assigned to Department of State. Planned and participated in international negotiations regarding U.S. military operations, basing, and assistance abroad.
Representative on standing inter-agency committees and task-forces concerning law-of-the-sea, international terrorism, and other matters.
Served as State Department delegate in negotiations with the Soviet Union.

Scheduled and assisted U.S. ambassadors in discussions with Joint Chiefs of Staff.

1970-1971 

Commanding Officer, U.S.S. Cleveland with embarked amphibious landing craft, helicopters, and Marine battalion in western Pacific.

Earlier Experience:

Interpreted and translated Chinese language at the Korean armistice talks. 
Executive assistant to senior command in Atlantic and Japan
Directed management, training, and operations of carrier-based based squadrons.
Pilot with Blue Angels, Navy flight demonstration team.

M.S. in International Affairs, George Washington University. 
B.S. in Physics, U.C.L.A.
Research Fellowship, Council on Foreign Affairs.
Graduate of National War College and Army War Colege.

Current (to 1988):

Lying on fanny in retirement. Painting (oils). Carving figurines.
Occasionally consulting and teaching on China trade and culture.
