Bill, a many-motor jock, was from North Carolina. He drove PBMs in the Formosa Strait during and after the Koran conflict in the ‘50s.
In the ‘60s he was Treasurir of Newport News Shipyard. In the “70s he was Vice President of Finance. Quite a few of us have fond memories of the ships that Bill's Yard built.
Bill, a quiet guy who liked hunting dogs and Carolina (in either order), was my neighbor for a dozen years in Newport Hews.
A great guy. We'll miss him.
He has a long string of positions, honors, and awards. I'll forward this information later.

1. A review of your record of naval service reveals that as of 1 August 1967, the effective date of your transfer to the Retired Reserve, you had completed 20 years, 1 month and 14 days of qualifying service and accumulted 4062 retirement points.
2. Pursuant to Sec 2 H.R. 5056 aviation midshipman is creditable as active duty in determining years of service under section 205 of title 37, United States
Code for purposes of computing the pay, allowances and other benefits which you are entitled under title 37 for service performed on and after the date of enactment of the legislation. Therefore, since you transferred to the retired reserve before enactment of this bill which was signed into law (Public Law 93-545)
26 December 1974, your midshipman service is only creditable for multiplier purposes for retirement (retirement points only).
